The filament hold by traditional spool holder has large force of friction which results in scratch and not smooth feeding. While with a built-in bearing one, experience goes like the holder rolls with filament spool rolls. Less friction, higher efficiency.

Why use bearings on a filament spool holder? Many printers original spool holders doesn't have any bearings. I am guessing the little bit of extra force needed to unwind it helps to prevent tangling. I can't remember the exact numbers but as I understand it most extruders can pull with quite a big force.
